Identify and remove ticks from your cat
I am the owner of indoor cats, but works with out door also.
Advantage is fabulous. I highly recommend it!
both are good! it depends on what you want! plus there is revolution..
which is good too!
they have equal effectiveness and are almost the same in cost. There isn’t really anything that I know of that works as well but keep in mind that flea season is in the summer only flea eggs wont hatch when it is under 63 degrees Fahrenheit.
I am also an owner of an indoor/ outdoor cat named Mephy. It’s been such a bad flea season it feels like working. But I use advantage and it works pretty well. It costs a lot but for I’d give anything for my kitty!
We use Revolution. The girls are 21 yr.old and 16 yr. old. On the advise of the BEST vet in the county, I tried it and was amazed how well they did. Scratching stopped within hrs., fur grew back and appetites returned. I am sold on this product.
The oldest one was becoming angry and agressive due to the fleas and now she’s returned to her normal being.
I read every answer above to make sure this had not been covered and it has not.
The most important thing about Frontline and Advantage is that they work totally different!!!!!
Advantage is effective on fleas . Adults, eggs, larva but, only fleas!!! Advantage also kills and repels.Repelling is super. Frontline does not repel so if fleas get on your cat and jump off because they don’t like the medicine they may jump right into the carpet where they can feast all winter in a nice controlled environment. YOU
An indoor/outdoor cat would be prey to the tick using advantage. For that we have the Frontline which will kill fleas and ticks but, as I said Frontline will not repel so when your cat comes in and the tick is walking…he may just walk right off your cat and right on to you.
I am hoping that I have explained enough of how the nasty buggers work so that you will see protection of your pet is one thing but, you will need to protect yourself as well. I have lyme disease as does the vet and I can tell you it is not a fun disease. My body just does not have the strength it used to and who knows what is going on inside.
In my opinion Advantage for fleas — absolutely and until Bayer makes Advantage with tick killing attributes the next best product is Frontline, it is also the only other product safely available that works consistently.
Please make sure to ask the tech for the proper application method–both of these meds rely on complete compliance during the application stage to be effective.
Good Luck — I hope you get every last one of the nasty things off your babies.
Why waste money on flea control? Your cat could be run over, tortured, eaten by a coyote, poisoned or lying on the side of a road bleeding to death before you use up the four pack of flea meds! http://www.littlebigcat.com/index.php?action=library&act=show&item=indoorsoroutdoors
I have four cats and use Revolution. At the shelter we use Advantage.
It is important to use flea treatment all year round, even during the winter months. If you get a warm spell, then the fleas will hatch out.
Also if your cat is also indoors, the treatment will kill any fleas in the house.
After I did some flea research, these were the only two products I would consider. My two are strictly indoor, and since I’d used Advantage in the past that’s the one I chose again.
It didn’t fix everything immediately; there were still live fleas to be found but at least Poppy was no longer being driven to distraction. Poppy got three monthly treatments and Sophie only got one since she didn’t even have fleas but I wanted to nip any activity in the bud. Neither cat had an adverse reaction.
I got them from the vet, of course. I’m satisfied with that product and would use it again.
I don’t recall the details of FP, although I believe it has a slightly different action than Advantage. For whatever reason, I got the impression that it was perhaps less harsh chemically speaking but that it might also be less effective. That’s just my vague recollection so don’t put too much stock in it.
My advice – go ahead and try the Advantage. If there is a bad reaction or it doesn’t seem to be working as well you can always go back to FP. Plus we’re moving out of active flea season now – at least in Wisconsin – so you may be seeing less fleas until next spring. If that plays any part in your decision….
My 12 year old indoor/outdoor cat has just been prescribed Advantage multi 18 for demodex mites. The Advantage multi 18 includes 80 mg moxidectin as well as 8 mg imidacloprid. It is said to kill flea, hookworm, roundworm, heartworm, and Otodectes (ear mites). For kittens and smaller cats there’s Advantage multi 9, a smaller dose of above. We don’t normally treat for fleas, never see them, although our cats eat mice, get tapeworm.
Both Frontline Plus and Advantage are just as good.We have 2 indoor/outdoor cats so we go through the treatments fast! We’ve tried both on the cats and they both work as much. Good luck with your cats!
