What are some natural alternatives to Frontline?

Frontline has gotten expensive–even through 1-800-PetMeds and I have heard that with regular use of it, it can enter the bloodstream, be processed by the liver, and reduce the life of dogs up to 25%. The chemicals themselves aren’t even good for the skin. Are there any natural ways I can do at home that would prevent fleas in dogs?
I live in Florida, where fleas and ticks are everywhere, yet I’ve not used a chemical flea preventative in over 4 years. So I really don’t understand how people can say natural remedies don’t work when that’s what has kept my dogs flea free for years. My neighbors all use frontline and such and still complain of fleas every so often….I’ve seen fleas in my yard yet have never seen them on my dogs. So I’m convinced they DO indeed work.
I use this: http://www.springtimeinc.com/product/bug_off_garlic_chewables/dogs as well as apple cider vinegar and you can use diatomaceous earth to kill any fleas that are actually on the dog. Contrary to what many people believe, there are alternatives to chemicals that work. You just have to be willing to do some research and trial and error.
I don’t like the idea of chemicals on my dog. If that’s what works for other people then fantastic, but I choose to use something less toxic.
Well whoever you heard that information from forgot to tell you that if you chant and circle three times there is no danger from the frontline.
Since fleas and ticks can cause disease its best to use a real product on your dog.
If natural remedies worked there would not be a multi-billion dollar flea product business.
Go to Coscto.com they have the best price on frontline. If your dog is not the largest size you can actually buy the largest size and split it to the appropriate dose-store the remaining frontline in an airtight bottle. That way you will reduce your cost drastically.
Everyone I know with dogs-and I show and know a lot of people-use Frontline, their dogs are all happy and healthy and long lived. This includes my own dogs as well.
So far, Frontline and K9 Advantix are the only ones that work safely – no matter what you’ve "heard".
Real Frontline does not enter the dog’s system, except to travel in the dog’s dermal layer – if you have concerns about that, it comes in a spray that only reaches the dog’s haircoat, and goes a lot farther than the topspot form of it. The most expensive topspot is a counterfeit supply, which makes your dog terribly sick. Get it form your vet, only.
"Natural" remedies for fleas don’t work, or if they are at all effective, can easily harm the animal.
Frontline and Advantix use science, which was along time in coming. Don’t ever forget, "all natural" does not mean safe. Cyanide is all natural.
i would really try to keep your dog on the frontline it is one of the best flea and tick stuff, over the counter stuff is the bad chemicals that you are probably hearing about. i do know that garlic will help keep fleas away too but not sure on how much to give your dog. but just like people they will get really bad garlic breath. one of the foods i used from blue buffalo had garlic in it and my dogs breath was killer…lol only changed foods because of my other 2 dogs had issues, still stuck with blue buffalo but now it is basic brand easier on digestive systems. i know it is expensive but worth it i own 3 dogs so you can imagine how much i pay to keep them healthy between the blue buffalo dog food which is about $53 a week for a 25lb bag and then frontline monthly for all 3 so i know your pain..lol
I use entirelypets.com and buy a year supply of Frontline for 108.00. Just wanted to let you know. They have free shipping and usually a code to save some money.
I use Frontline on my 65 pound Shepherd Mix. I buy it off of 800PetMeds for $40 which is really cheap. It’s like $70 in the store. You can buy garlic pills. They have them for dogs. Its great for their skin as well. My pooch is taking them. Brewer’s Yeast garlic pills. You can get them at Petsmart. You need to make sure and vacuum everyday and spray inside and outside the house. I use De Flea. It’s a spray that is safe to spray inside the house on everything…even your pet. After I vacuum I spray EVERYWHERE. I also buy Bio Spot for the yard. You hook it up to your hose and spray. My dog has sensitive skin so I use Hertz Oatmeal and flea control shampoo. With all of these things being used I have kept down the fleas. He had them real bad when I brought him home from the shelter. Now he doesn’t have any. It sounds like a lot of things to do but they work and are worth it! All of these products I have mentioned you can buy at Petco and/or Petsmart. Good luck!
There are no natural methods that will match the effectiveness of FL or Advantage lines of products. If there was, there would be no need to make/sell either one. Natural methods like using apple cider vinegar do help repel fleas but don’t kill & can only repel to a certain amount & needs to be reapplied daily.

ACV does help especially healing bug bites but is no substitute for the spot-ons. Costs are regular part of pet ownership & what you accept by getting a pet.
I agree with Shanna.
All the topicals are being investigated by the government. There are so many side effects. And you’re right about the liver. Some dogs have died with the first time a topical was used.
