We have used flea meds in the past on our cats and it worked just fine (same brand). However, this is the first time in a year at least that we bought some. After putting it on the backs of their necks, we assumed the fleas would die as in the past. However, now the flea dirt is out of control and there are MORE fleas. What happened? Should I ask my vet for more (free)? We spent for three treatments. Why didn’t it work this time?
hen things are really out of control, other things need to be one.yes, one dose kills the live fleas but, not the eggs that will still hatch.only a flea dip and full flea combing will do that. if your home has fleas(if the cats do , most likley the home will too)do a flea bomb too.that may need to be done twice too as the eggs can still be protected in the egg sac. ask your vet for the best solution. describe the extent of the infestation. good luck!!
i think you should take your cats to thevet if u can and consult your vet. and maybe u have fleas in the house.
The fleas have probably become immune to the active ingredient in the Advantage. Ask the vet about switching to a different product like Revolution. Sometimes rotating brands/formulas helps. Never use anything from WalMart.
It is possible that you have fleas in your carpet. A flea can reproduce more fleas in the matter of 24 hours. In order to stop the infestation of fleas on your cats you need to make sure that they are not in your carpet. No matter how many times you feel that you have taken care of them on your cats if there are any fleas in your carpet no matter what treatment you use on them it will not rid your cats of the fleas as they reproduce. I had the problem with infestation in my carpet and it took forever to finally get rid of them. I don’t remember what I put on the carpet but I had to vacuum several times a day and then after a day or so get rid of the bag in the vacuum to make sure that they were really out of the carpet and not jumping back on it. It takes a great deal of effort and long time to get rid of them. Contact your vet to see if there is something that they can suggest to take care of the fleas in the meantime.
