Is 1 800 Petmeds a good place for pet medication?

Our pomeranian has cushings disease, and it costs my grandmother sixty dollars for her prescription. Would 1800 Petmeds be cheaper? Also how does that work? Does the vet call in the prescription?
It is Prednisone 5mg. I found this one on the is one website, but how could it be that cheap?

You fax over the Rx from your vet or they do it for you. Sometimes they aren’t cheaper because you have to add on the shipping. They also aren’t the only place that sells pet meds on line. Try checking out the prices of other places like drsfostersmith.com. It all depends on the medication just like Rx’s for people. Maybe they have a generic that’s less money. You would really have to shop around.
Edit: I have always used Drsfostersmith and found them to be very reasonable. Maybe the price is way less because it’s listed as the generic brand. Your grandmother may not have been using a generic but a name brand in the past. Check out other web sights to be sure thats as low as you can get it for. Don’t forget to add on the price of shipping.
Thats where I get all my dogs medication especially because most of the time the vet doesn’t have to fax anything in you can just get her meds off the website but there are cheaper sites to.
petmed is the ONLY place my vet will not write a ‘scrip for they are not a place with a good reputation.
now if you have a scrip for prednisone for a cushings dog you actually need a new vet BADLY or an new understanding of your dogs problem. Prednisone, a cortisone compound, is exactly the LAST drug that should be given to a dog with cushings, a problem of too MUCH cortisone production.
here are some web pages to start with

PS your local drugstore (rite-aid, walgreens, ect) CAN fill out a vet scrip IF it is a medication also used for humans ( pred is) and they carry it (likely)
I usually just place the order and Petmeds calls my vet for the prescription. There are other places that sell prescription meds for dogs – Drfosterssmith and Petfooddirect and some other ones. Some are cheaper, some aren’t. So far i’ve found Petmeds to be the least expensive with free shipping most of the time. A lot of times, a regular pharmacy like Walgreens will have the same medication for lots less, this has been the case for my cat a few times. I don’t know if this would be the case for you or not, but some medications seem to be marked up when their marketed for pets rather than humans. I’ve even found some of my pets’ medications on Walmart’s $4 list where Petmeds and other places had them for $20. I’ve also ordered from Canadian Pharmacies.
Usually my vet will flat out tell me where the best place is to get the drug, where’s the cheapest, easiest, etc. But do more researc as there are other venues for purchasing prescription meds for pets. Ask your vet if any questions come up or if you’re unsure about anything. Sometimes it can get a bit confusing even though it sounds simple. A drug will have a suffix that’s not on the prescription, for example.
Add – Good find.
